Transitioneer (Transition Engineer) is an evolving profession for people that are studying, designing and implementing tools for “tuning” human civilization with the dynamic equilibrium and wisdom of our mother planet Earth through the path of inner/outer science/knowledge. These tools include, common technical language, models and knowledge, visions of the best possible futures feasible to humans with what is known today and guidelines to move forward. Transitioneers resonate with the Cultural Creatives trend and share the understanding that the planet is one complex living system that needs to be seen as One.

Transition.- a movement, development, or evolution from one form, stage, or style to another.

Engineering.- (from Latin ingenium, meaning “cleverness” and ingeniare, meaning “to contrive, devise”) is the application of scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to invent, design, build, maintain, and improve structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes.

An engineer is a professional practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical, societal and commercial problems. Engineers design materials, structures, and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost.

This question is one that only a very old man asks. Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same they lead nowhere. There are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life I could say I have traversed long long paths, but I am not anywhere. Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn’t, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn’t. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you”

Types of action needed for successful transition.

1-Protecting: Stopping deforestation, pollution, violence, inequality, lies, corruption….

2-Restoring: Reforesting, cleaning, healing, nurturing….

3-Implementing: New systems, networks, alternative currencies, values, technology, art….

The Assumptions.

1- There is the known, the knowable and the unknowable, being the unknowable the source of all.

  • -There is no absolute truth but relative certainties and ethics.

  • -Language can approximate to the known and point to the unknowable. Every conversation is rooted in assumptions. Communication is not only a product of words. The only content of knowledge is structural.

  • -The word is not the object, the map is not the territory. Our current popular language is distorted and insufficient to deal with today´s complexity.

2-Human beings have an unreached potential that could be developed by intentional work and proven methodologies.

  • The potential needs to be developed for the species to survive and preserve the planet´s ability to sustain human life.

  • -There is “free will” inside limits. “Free will” increases with intentional work and help from others.

  • -The potential can only be developed by working with others.

3-A “whole systems approach” based on collaborative knowledge and technology is needed to evolve from the current political, monetary and market systems to new ways of managing earth resources and human affairs. Multidisciplinary consensus towards quality of live and human development (applied love) free from political or monetary influence is the key for global decision making and system design.

4-The only constant is change.
